International Resources

Child Abuse Prevention Network: A huge site with links to many professional organizations. You'll also find access to various databases on child abuse, online articles and book reviews, news and announcements and a large listing of links of interest.

Child Abuse Statistics, Research and Resources: A collection of international research, statistics by country and on and offline resources for those researching this topic.

Child Prostitution and Tourism Watch: The Watch is a global action platform of tourism-related key-players from the government and the tourism industry sectors, international organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and media associations whose aim is to prevent, uncover, isolate and eradicate the sexual exploitation of children in tourism.

Child Protection: A European web site listing major child safety and missing children sites on the Continent.

Child Quest International: Child Quest International is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and recovery of missing, abused and exploited children, and at-risk adults. Their services are offered free to all victims and their families.

Child Sexual Abuse: An excellent overview of this crime, including easy to read and understand information on perpetrators and the techniques they use to lure children.

Child Trauma Institute: An excellent resource on all issues dealing with child and adolescent trauma and loss, how to help and understand. Sections on assessment, treatment, online publications and links of interest can be found here.

Childwatch International: An international network of organizations and services involved in research on children. One of their main aims is to coordinate research on children's living conditions and children's rights.

ECPAT: This is a network of organizations and individuals working together for the elimination of child prostitution, child pornography and trafficking of children for sexual purposes. It seeks to encourage the world community to ensure that children everywhere enjoy their fundamental rights free from all forms of commercial sexual exploitation.  Their site includes: a wide variety of online articles and documents from around the globe; information on the ECPAT network or organizations; an FAQ, best practices and database on the sexual exploitation of children; and links to sites and organizations of interest.

Hague Convention International Child Abduction Database: The International Child Abduction Database (INCADAT) was established with the object of making accessible many of the leading decisions taken by national courts in respect of the 1980 Hague Convention. INCADAT is used by judges, Central Authorities, legal practitioners, researchers and others interested in this rapidly developing branch of law.

International Bureau for Children's Rights: Aims to respond to the need expressed by the international community to enhance the protection of child victims and witnesses of crime who, in many countries, neither benefit from adequate protection of their rights nor from child-friendly procedures, both within and outside the judicial process.

International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children: Launched by the U.S.-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, ICMEC works to identify and coordinate a global network of organizations fighting child sexual exploitation and abduction. As ICMEC grows in size and support, its work relies on the commitment of countless public and private organizations, all concerned with child safety and global communication. Rather than replace the efforts of these local agencies, ICMEC serves as a coordinator, facilitator, and enabler for the agencies by providing counsel, standards, tools, and resources to help maximize the individual and collective effectiveness of agencies worldwide.

International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect:  ISPCAN is a multidisciplinary international organization that brings together a worldwide cross-section of committed professionals to work towards the prevention and treatment of child abuse, neglect and exploitation globally.  Their site includes conference information, publications and other resources.

Interpol's Legislation of Member States on Missing Children:  Links to legislative information on missing children from dozens of countries.

Interpol's Missing Children Database: Children appearing on this web site are those which law enforcement authorities from Interpol's 181 member countries request Interpol to circulate on an International basis.  This is why, out of the important number of children who go missing, only a few hundred appear here.

Kidshield Europe: This European Union organization provides information and educational materials to help train children and parents on issues of Internet safety, child pornography and child luring.

LOCATER: LOCATER is an advanced, web-based computer program that provides law enforcement with the tools and technology needed to rapidly broadcast missing-child images and information. Using LOCATER, agencies can quickly create their own missing-person posters. The LOCATER Program is used in more than 4,500 law-enforcement agencies across the United States.

National Council on Child Abuse and Family Violence: NCCAFV provides public awareness and education materials, program and resource development consultation, and technical assistance and training in the United States and internationally.

Pandora's Box: The Secrecy of Child Sexual Abuse: A large and complete website, with 100+ pages of information on child sexual abuse and related topics, full of graphics. Very much worth a look.

Parental Abduction in Divorce: A collection of links and information from around the world on this crime.

School Safety and Violence Links - Criminal Justice Resources: A large collection of links to sites, articles and organizations dealing with the topic of school safety and violence.

Sexual Abuse of Males - Prevalence, Lasting Effects, and Resources:  A site by Dr. Jim Hopper, it supplies information, support and resources for males abused as children

The Committee for Missing Children International: This page leads to this organization's web sites in England, France, Germany and the United States.

UNICEF: The homepage of the United Nation's International Children's Fund.

Verbal Abuse: The Verbal Abuse website is dedicated to the recognition and prevention of verbal abuse in homes, schools and workplaces. A major online resource in this field.

Virtual Global Taskforce: The VGT is made up of law enforcement agencies from around the world working together to fight child abuse online. The aim of the VGT is to build an effective, international partnership of law enforcement agencies that helps to protect children from online child abuse. The objectives of the VGT are: To make the Internet a safer place; To identify, locate and help children at risk; To hold perpetrators appropriately to account.

The VGT is made up of the Australian High Tech Crime Centre, the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre in the UK, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the US Department of Homeland Security and Interpol. Jim Gamble, the Chief Executive of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre is the Chair of the VGT.  The VGT delivers low-cost, high impact initiatives that prevent and deter pedophiles from exploiting children online.

Australia

Advocates for Survivors of Child Abuse: ASCA (Advocates for Survivors of Child Abuse) is a national not for profit organization of survivors supporting other survivors. - ASCA's door is open to anyone (over 18) who feels they have suffered abuse - physical, emotional, sexual or spiritual. Through an Australia-wide support network - online, phone and face-to-face, monthly newsletter, 1300 information line (1300 657 380), and counselor-facilitated programs, workshops, awareness events and this website, ASCA helps to break down the sense of isolation and alienation many survivors feel, validates survivors' experiences and encourages trust.

Australian Institute of Family Studies National Child Protection Clearinghouse: Information on conferences, link directories, databases and excellent publications.

Australian & New Zealand Association of Children's Contact Services Inc.: ANZACCS is a non-profit association which promotes sound analysis of the role and limitations of supervised parent child contact ('access', visitation') services, provides a network for members and promotes quality in service provision. The site has a nice selection of links, background information and contact addresses for related organizations in Australia and around the world.

Justlook Australia: A non-profit social service directory agency, you can search their database for contact information to victim service programs, domestic violence agencies, sexual assault centers, suicide hotlines and much more.

Canada

A Canadian Directory of Court Support Services for Child and Youth Victims and Witnesses: A project of Justice Canada's Policy Centre for Victim Issues

Canadian Society for the Investigation of Child Abuse (CSICA): This non-profit organization works to the growing need for coordinated, professional approaches to child sexual abuse investigations. Major activities of the Society include training investigators and responding to the needs of abused children.

Child Abuse Effects: A detailed and involved site which describes how children can be impacted by a variety of abusive behaviours.

Child CyberSEARCH Canada: The site is recognized by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as the official Canadian missing children agencies website

Child Victim Witness Support Program - Toronto Child Abuse Centre: The Program prepares children who are called to testify in court. Individual and group support is offered to assist and advocate for children, youth and adult support persons. Referrals are accepted from police, Victim/Witness Assistance Programs, Crown Attorneys, child protection workers, treatment providers and parents. The program objectives are to:  Provide direct assistance to child witness through the court process; Extend community and professionals’ understanding of the role of the criminal justice system in responding to child witnesses.

Child Find Canada: The home page of this Canadian organization.

Child Witness Centre of Waterloo: Through its staff, programs and services, the Child Witness Centre offers impartial support to all children in Waterloo Region and Wellington County who have been victims or witnesses of crimes. The agency plays an integral role in balancing the needs of that justice system with the child’s right not to be subjected to further emotional trauma. Support services are provided free of charge and include: Offering support and assistance through each stage of the court process; Providing the child and family with updates on the case; Educating the child about the judicial system; Arranging and attending meetings for the child with the Crown attorney; Meeting with the child for court preparation -- helping them cope with fears and concerns; familiarization with court procedures, oath taking and legal terminology; facilitating conditions necessary for a full and candid account of the evidence; Accompanying the child to court; Explaining the verdict Assisting in writing the victim impact statement, if required.

Courtprep.ca: An animated web site to help youth to prepare for attending court.

Cybertip.ca: Cybertip.ca is Canada's national tipline for reporting the online sexual exploitation of children. It is a centralized web portal for receiving and addressing reports from the public regarding child pornography, luring, child sex tourism, and children who are exploited through prostitution. Cybertip.ca also provides the public with information, referrals and other resources to help Canadians keep their children safe while on the Internet.

London Family Court Clinic: A non-profit mental health agency in London, Ontario. Their commitment is to the special needs of children involved in the justice system, whether offenders, victims of crime or abuse, or the subjects of custody disputes. The site includes a number of articles on children/young people which advocates would find interesting, as well as a listing of books authored by clinic staff.

Métis Nation of Ontario Victim Services: The Victim Services Program is a recent project under the Health Services Branch of the MNO. It is funded by the Ontario Government. The focus of the program is to increase public awareness, prevention strategies and provide community resources to the MNO citizens who are affected by violence (domestic violence, child abuse, etc). The MNO makes every effort to provide culturally relevant material to all its citizens.

METRAC (Metro Action Committee on Public Violence Against Women and Children) ): A non-profit organization based in Toronto, Ontario, committed to the right of women and children to live free of violence and the threat of violence. This site supplies excellent information on their organization, the numerous programs METRAC oversees in the Metro Toronto area, plus it give access to a database of over 4,000 documents on violence against women and children, METRAC's own publications and a small collection of links.

Missing Children Society of Canada: The Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to the search for runaway and abducted children. MCSC provides a comprehensive investigative program, free of charge, to assist police and searching parents in the active, ongoing search for missing children.

Missing Kids Canada Website: A member of the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children (a project of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children), allowing Canadian nationals to report missing or abused children.

National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre: The National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC), was created to help protect children from online sexual exploitation.  The NCECC  is a national clearing house and coordination centre for all international requests to conduct investigations in Canada related to child sexual exploitation on the Internet;  provides support to peace officers, in particular investigators involved in files dealing with child sexual exploitation on the Internet; works to builds relationships and collaborates with domestic and international partners to raise awareness and combat criminal activity which targets, exploits and abuses children; and will help develop standards and guidelines within Canada and provide many levels of support to law enforcement investigators involved in files dealing with the sexual exploitation of children on the Internet.

National Clearinghouse on Family Violence Canada: An office of Health Canada, this site provides excellent information and resources on all aspects of family violence, including: prevention, elder abuse, child abuse, spousal abuse, sexual abuse and more.

National Sex Offender Registry: RCMP Fact Sheet: The RCMP fact sheet on Canada's national Sex Offender Registry.  It includes background information, a Question and Answer area, and printable brochures.

Ontario Association of Children's Aid Societies: OACAS is a membership organization that represents 51 children's aid societies in Ontario. Services have included the promotion of child welfare issues, member services, government liaison and policy development, research and special projects, quality assurance in child welfare practice and training for all protection workers throughout the province.

Our Missing Children:  This  program is comprised of the RCMP's Missing Children's Registry, Revenue Canada's International Project Return and Citizenship and Immigration Canada.  Their site includes information and fact sheets on all aspects of missing children from a local, national and international viewpoint.

The Secret of the Silver Horse:  An online instructional story for children.   In this publication, children are shown the difference between a good secret and a secret about sexual abuse, and between good touching and sexually abusive touching.  The Secret of the Silver Horse instructs children that secrets about sexual abuse should not be kept. The story also teaches that if a child tells a teenager or an adult about sexual abuse and that person does nothing, the child should be persistent and tell someone else.

Vancouver VISAC & TASA Victim Support Services: Serving the Vancouver and Richmond areas, they offer support and information to children and adolescents who have been sexually/physically abused and their non-offending family members, where criminal charges against the offender are anticipated or have been laid. The program also works with children and youth witnesses of crime and provides information and support to adult survivors of child sexual/physical abuse.

Victims of Violence: VoV oversees a number of projects, acts in advocacy and is active in referring victims to appropriate services. Their Centre for Missing Children is recognized by the RCMP Missing Children Registry. Links leading to online publications, auto-fax lines and research papers are available.

British Association for the Study and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect: The British Association for the Study and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (BASPCAN)  aims to prevent physical, emotional and sexual abuse and neglect of children by promoting the physical, emotional, and social well-being of children.

Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre: The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre works across the UK and maximizes international links to tackle child sex abuse wherever and whenever it happens. Part of their strategy for achieving this is to provide internet safety advice for parents and caregivers, and delivering a virtual police station for reporting abuse on the internet.

ChildLine UK: ChildLine is the UK's free national helpline for children and young people in trouble or danger. Extensive link and support information.

Missing Kids UK Website: A member of the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children (a project of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children), allowing UK nationals to report missing or abused children.

National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children: The National Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) is the UK's leading charity specializing in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children. It has been protecting children from abuse for over 100 years. The NSPCC is the only children's charity in the UK with statutory powers enabling it to act to safeguard children at risk. This site contains on and off-line publications, research material, program data, regional office contact information and so much more I can't even begin to describe it all.

Reunite: The leading UK charity specializing in international parental child abduction, they provide advice, information and support to parents, family members and guardians who have had a child abducted or who fear child abduction. They also provide advice to parents who may have abducted their child as well as advising on international contact issues.

Women's Aid Federation National Home Page: This English national organization provides support and information for women and children experiencing physical or emotional violence or sexual abuse in the home. Information on public education, safe houses, safety plans, statistics and useful links to sites of interest can all be found here.

A Parent's Guide to Internet Safety - FBI Library: A simple and very complete explanation of dangers and danger signs for parents to be aware of while their children are using the Internet.

Abuse Victim Hotline: The Abuse Victim Hotline, Inc. offers preliminary support to victims of abuse nationally via their toll-free hotline and confidential email service. If their volunteers cannot help a victim or friend/loved one of a victim directly, they'll do their best to point them in the right direction.

Amber Alert Website (DOJ): The US Dept. of Justice's Broadcast Emergency Response site.

American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law: A very useful legal resources on child advocacy. including a listing of available publications, factbooks, standards, court improvement, parental abduction, child protection and more.

American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children: APSAC's mission is to ensure that everyone affected by child maltreatment receives the best possible professional response. APSAC addresses all facets of the professional response to child maltreatment: prevention, assessment, intervention, and treatment. Its publications and training cover all aspects of child maltreatment, including emotional neglect and other forms of neglect, psychological maltreatment, and physical and sexual abuse. Sections on professional development, local chapters, legislation and APSAC publications can be found on site.

CASA: The National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association: An association of volunteer court- appointed special advocates, the purpose of these specially trained advocates is to speak for the best interest of a child who is passing through the justice or social service systems. CASA is always actively recruiting new members.  They also have a support website called CASAnet which provides organization, management and funding info for local CASA services.

Center for the Prevention of School Violence: The Center serves as a primary point of contact for dealing with the problem of school violence. The Center focuses on ensuring that schools are safe and secure so that every student is able to attend a school that is safe and secure, one that is free of fear and conducive to learning. On their site you'll find project descriptions, special articles, research briefs and bulletins, newsletters and downloadable files. Of special interest may be their School Violence Statistics and Articles sections.

Center on Child Abuse and Neglect: The Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN)  is a university-based center that directs research, professional and public education, clinical services, and administrative programs in the field of child maltreatment. The website contains descriptions of the many activities of CCAN, as well as links to other sites with information regarding child maltreatment, including conference announcements, newsletters, book reviews, downloadable manuscripts, and more.

Child Abuse Prevention Network: Child maltreatment, physical abuse, psychological maltreatment, neglect, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse and neglect are their key areas of concern. They provide support to those who work in the identification, investigation, treatment, adjudication, and prevention of child abuse and neglect. 

Child Find of America: Child Find is a national not-for-profit charity whose mission is to locate missing children through active investigation, prevent child abduction through education, and resolve incidents of parental abduction through mediation.

Child Welfare Information Gateway: This vast site contains online publications, fact sheets, databases and catalogs, access to statistical information from across the US, conference calendars and a host of links to other sites of interest. 

Child Welfare League of America: The CWLA is an association of more than 1,100 public and private nonprofit agencies that assist over 3.5 million abused and neglected children and their families each year with a wide range of services. Their site includes links to advocacy information, training and education and their existing programs.

Childhelp USA:  Childhelp USA is dedicated to meeting the physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs of abused and neglected children. It's programs and services include: the Childhelp USA® National Child Abuse Hotline, 1-800-4-A-CHILD®; residential treatment facilities for severely abused children; child advocacy centers that reduce the trauma of child abuse victims during the interview and examination process; group homes; foster family selection, training and certification; Head Start programs for at-risk children; child abuse prevention programs; and community outreach.

Children of the Night: An organization based in Vay Nuys, California, USA, dedicated to getting homeless young people off the street.

Communities Against Violence Network (CAVNET): The purpose of the CAVNET homepage is to serve as a searchable, authoritative source of information about violence against women, children, persons with disabilities, gays and lesbians, and others. A very interesting and useful resource.

Connect for Kids: An information and advocacy center for those interested in children's mental health. Individual areas of the site are devoted to advocacy, legislation, research, grass-roots campaigns, news, volunteers and much more.

Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children: The National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association's  mission is to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children who are involved in the juvenile courts. We work with state and local CASA and volunteer guardian ad litem programs to promote and support quality volunteer advocacy to help assure each child a safe, permanent, nurturing home.

Delete Cyberbullying: A campaign of the National Crime Prevention Council, this site supplies compete information on what cyberbullying is, how to recognize the signs of someone being cyberbullied, what to do if you are the target of cyberbullying, and generally how to stay safe on the Internet.

Federal Bureau of Investigation - Crimes Against Children: A in depth review of the FBI's services for crimes against children, the Amber Alert system, laws and legislation for chlid protection, and much more.

Florida Missing Children Information Clearinghouse: The program provides liaison among citizens, private organizations and law enforcement officials regarding missing children information. Additional services provided by the MCIC include a directory of resources available for additional assistance in locating a child; emergency flyers requested by law enforcement agencies containing descriptors of missing children believed to be in immediate danger; training for law enforcement agencies and public/private organizations regarding the operations of the MCIC; and a child safety guide which includes a list of precautions which outlines programs to insure our children's safety.

Hawaii State Clearinghouse on Missing Children: The Clearinghouse operates as a Hawaii response center for missing children . The agency is linked to all Hawaii county police departments, the FBI, all mainland U.S. police agencies through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), all mainland children's clearinghouses through computer hookups with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and national as well as state databases to enable the "tracking" of abductors and/or "missing children" through drivers licenses, vehicle registration, social security numbers and credit information.

Kids in Trouble Help Page: A Kids & Teens Guide to Child Abuse, Depression, Suicide, Runaway and Bullying Help: A grassroots collection of links to child aid sites and helpful organizations around the world.

Loved Ones Victim Services: Started as a support group to help one another with the grief and trauma associated with homicide, Loved Ones Victim Services expanded its outreach to provide specialized case management to children. LOVS addresses the cycle of violence in the Los Angeles area through intervention and prevention programs aimed at supporting the co-victims of violent crime.

Michigan Missing Children State Clearinghouse: The clearinghouse operates as an information and referral resource to the public, local law enforcement, and other state clearinghouses. It provides information and guidance, where possible, to these entities.

National Association of Counsel for Children: The National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC) is a non-profit child advocacy and professional membership association. The NACC is dedicated to providing high quality legal representation for children. Their mission is to improve the lives of children and families through legal advocacy. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children: Working with the US Justice Dept. and police services, this non-profit organization helps locate and aid missing children and those needing protection.

National Center for the Prosecution of Child Abuse: The National District Attorneys Association established the National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse as a program of the American Prosecutors Research Institute (APRI). Aimed at responding to an increasing volume of reported child abuse, the National Center provides training, technical assistance and publications to prosecutors, investigators and allied criminal justice professionals on all aspects of criminal child abuse and exploitation.

National Child Traumatic Stress Network: The mission of the NCTSN is to raise the standard of care and improve access to services to traumatized children, their families and communities throughout the United States.  Extensive information and referral services are available on their site.

National Council on Child Abuse and Family Violence: NCCAFV provides public awareness and education materials, program and resource development consultation, and technical assistance and training in the United States and internationally.

National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect: NDACAN is an organization which facilitates the secondary analysis of child abuse and neglect datasets with statistical software such as SPSS or SAS. Other services include a child maltreatment research electronic mailing list and an annual research institute for secondary analysis with on-hand technical assistance.

National Education Association Crisis Communications Guide and Toolkit: A complete program for developing crisis plan for schools, including pre-crisis organization, actions to be taken during a crisis involving a schools, post-crisis activities and tools for educators.

National Foundation for Abused and Neglected Children:  NFANC is an organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect. The organization's principal mission is to enable people to prevent crime and build safer, more caring communities.   NFANC produces and distributes various publications, program materials, posters, and informational and policy reports on a variety of crime prevention and community-building subjects. It also conducts short courses, seminars, and workshops for judicial and administrative officials as well as for other nonprofit organizations, to educate the community at all levels in gang awareness.

National Indian Child Welfare Association: NICWA is the most comprehensive source of information on American Indian child welfare and works on behalf of Indian children and families. NICWA provides public policy, research, and advocacy; information and training on Indian child welfare; and community development services to a broad national audience including tribal governments and programs, state child welfare agencies, and other organizations, agencies, and professionals interested in the field of Indian child welfare.

National Network of Child Care: Good information on child care, abuse prevention and more.

National Next of Kin Registry: NOKR, a free service provided by a non-profit agency, supported by many US government agencies,  is the only organization globally that provides a free emergency contact resource of this kind, to both citizens and to emergency agencies. Many people think that if they are carrying a driver's license, identification card or credit cards, authorities will know who their emergency contact is. The fact is these forms of identity only indicate who you are not who should be contacted in the event of urgent need. To add to this problem, often times your current identification is not updated or readily available and it becomes very difficult and complex to locate next of kin. Who will speak for you or your family member when they can't? NOKR is the solution.

National Sex Offender Registry: Using this web site, interested members of the public have access to and may search participating state Web site public information regarding the presence or location of offenders, who, in most cases, have been convicted of sexually-violent offences against adults and children and certain sexual contact and other crimes against victims who are minors. The public can use this Web site to educate themselves about the possible presence of such offenders in their local communities.

National Sexual Violence Resource Center: The NSVRC collects information and resources to assist those working to end sexual violence and to improve resources, outreach and responses.

New York State Missing and Exploited Children Clearinghouse: The NYS Missing and Exploited Children Clearinghouse was established within the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services in 1987.  Primary responsibilities include: Managing the mandated repository for missing/unidentified person information submitted by law enforcement agencies and medical examiner's office; Assisting law enforcement agencies and family members in searching for missing/abducted children (under 18 years of age) as well as missing college students (as of 1999); developing and distributing child safety literature and programs.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's  (OJJDP) Child Protection Division: The Child Protection Division administers projects, programs, and initiatives related to crimes against children and children’s exposure to violence. It provides leadership and funding in the areas of prevention, intervention, treatment, and enforcement. CPD promotes research and effective policies and procedures to address the problems of abused, neglected, missing, and exploited children and children who have been exposed to domestic or community violence.

Ohio Missing Children Clearinghouse: Links on this page lead to this state's network for missing children, including access to publications, posters, databases and educational materials/training.

OJJDP Statistical Briefing Book: This resources provides basic information on juvenile crime and victimization and on youth involved in the juvenile justice system. Data in presented in six topical headings to provide timely and reliable statistical answers to the most frequently asked questions of policymakers, the media, and the general public.

Outpost for Hope: This organization seeks to bridge the gap between under-represented missing, unidentified deceased persons, and their families. This population often includes the homeless, runaways and others forgotten by society.   They assist families who are searching for their lost loved ones, support the efforts of law enforcement, and educate the public about this silent epidemic.

Project Safe Childhood: Project Safe Childhood (PSC) aims to combat the proliferation of technology-facilitated sexual exploitation crimes against children. This US government site include information on online sexual exploitation of children, provides the latest news on government efforts to curtail or prosecute this criminal act, provides links to other organizations working towards the protection of children online, and provides publications from these organizations.

Polly Klass Foundation: A non-profit organization dedicated to "Make America Safe for Children". Their goals include: education, technical assistance and support for individuals and the public; assistance in the recovery of missing children; governmental and legislative advocacy on behalf of children. This site has many areas and links of interest.

Promote Truth: The mission of Promote Truth is to provide support and information about sexual violence issues for teens and their communities. The project developed from a desire to help teens become informed about sexual violence. The website is designed to help viewers become empowered and more aware;  it  provides up-to-date and accurate information about sexual violence issues to teens. Teens can view information on-line or leave an anonymous message.

Safe Child: This website deals with all possible aspects of child abuse and violence, as well as providing information on risk management, research, advocacy and much more.  An interesting section deals with Emotional Abuse of children.

Shaken Baby Syndrome Alliance: A large and complete site, including sections on frequently asked questions, conferences and events, prevention, signs and symptoms, crisis hotline, support and much more.

Taking the Bully by the Horns - Bullies, Self-esteem and Violence: Links and information (including several books not reviewed by VAOnline) on children and bullying, along with advice for parents/teachers/adults and children on dealing with bullies and bullying.

US Dept of Health and Human Services Children's Bureau: It is responsible for assisting States in the delivery of child welfare services - services designed to protect children and strengthen families. The agency provides grants to States, Tribes and communities to operate a range of child welfare services including child protective services (child abuse and neglect) family preservation and support, foster care, adoption and independent living. In addition, the agency makes major investments in staff training, technology and innovative programs.

US State Department's Children and Family Issues: A series of links detailing various  international laws in regards to this children and child support, including links on international child abduction and links to laws/situations/requirements in specific countries.

Vanished Children's Alliance: The Vanished Children's Alliance is the second oldest and largest missing children's organization in the United States, and has been providing for the prevention, location, recovery and reunification of missing and abducted children since 1980. 

Virginia Youth Violence Project: The VYVP works to identify effective methods and policies for youth violence prevention and response, especially in school settings; conduct and disseminate research on the understanding and reduction of violent behavior in youth; provide education and training for educators, psychologists, and other colleagues in the social, legal, and human services profession. Their site contains information on ongoing projects, links to resources and sites of interest and a description of the project staff and background information.
